Because I thought we agreed that's creepy.”And it’s a big one.I finished Magic Rises over a week ago and I’ve yet to pick up another book. You see, I’m still in recovery. This book is the most emotionally charged Kate Daniels installment to date. Mr. and Mrs. Andrews, Man, this book rocked my KD-loving world. One look at my status updates and you can see that I was a frikkin emotional mess throughout. It’s so common for a series to start off strongly only to fizzle out in later books. Not this series. It only gets better and better. The Andrews are a dynamo writing team. I have loved other books and other series, but only with KD’s world do I feel like I’m in it. Like I’m one of the gang. I’m awful at reviewing this series, so I usually resort to fangirling accentuated with gifs, but this is my valiant attempt at an actual written review (accentuated with gifs). Keep your expectations low, please. It’s gonna be a very vague smorgasbord of my feels, because I can’t tell you much about the book without spoiling and you do not want this one spoiled. Trust me. (This means, you, Aly. -_- ) First, let me say that the humor of the previous books is absolutely present in this one. It was just as quotable as every other KD book and just as laugh-out-loud-able. I wish, so much, that I could quote all my fave one-liners, but I won’t be the asshole to ruin it for you. More than once, I had to put the book down and just give in to the laughter. This, of course, is par for the course with these authors, but it’s awesome that the jokes are still as fresh and funny as ever. The humor also lacks that “trying-too-hard” thing that I hate with the intensity of a thousand quasars. There’s no reaching here like in so many other series. *COUGH*CHARLEY DAVIDSON*COUGH*. The jokes are just plain funny. And yes, I did just randomly get my hate on.Also still present, is the unpretentious love of Kate and Curran. They have some of their signature lovey-dovey moments that will move you to tears (or is it just me that cries for them and every single little thing they do?). Their love… I just love their love. I love their love. Unfortunately, it's not all rainbows and gumdrops, as there are some trying moments this time around. I can't say that I was 100% happy with the way things played out, but I'll let it go this one time. -_- I'd say these events between our leading couple came dangerously close to making me further lower my rating, but there were other aspects of the story that made up for it in the end. They're on probation, though.As the synopsis suggests, our Badass Heroine and The Sexy Mofo are forced to take a little trip to handle some business overseas. I was excited for the change of scenery, but I had my concerns. I wasn’t too keen on the reason for their voyage, but then again, neither were they. They knew they were heading into trouble, but there was little to be done about it. Let’s face it, though - there’s always trouble.So they gather up the gang and head on over and mad hijinks ensue. That’s all I can say about that, but speaking of their gang, I loved their gang. What a FANTASTIC bunch of characters. There were a few new shifters introduced to the core group and they were great. The Andrews are gifted authors and never fail to make you care for all of their characters, including the supporting ones. One returning character in particular…*Clears throat. I... wasn't expecting that. This character absolutely made the story. He's fascinating and infuriating and delicious and I want to bite hate him. I'll say no more.Having them all travel to a new place made for an interesting read in more ways than one. There was a definite unease and you could tell that the Atlanta group felt out of sorts. I also felt that way reading the book. The setting and the situations they were placed in were new to them and me, so it was easy to empathize. It also helped to make me feel even more immersed and more a part of the group. I swear, I act like I’m a side character or something. >_
