*I will not be spoiling this for you, Unearthly fans. I won’t even be hinting at who she chooses.*2013 is starting off with a bang. A series finale that didn’t suck. Yaaay!Kudos, Ms. Hand – you’ve done it again. I’ve never liked love triangles. Come to find out that I never liked poorly executed triangles, because here is a series with a prominent triangle and I LOVED it. Book 1, I loved Tucker. Book 2, I loved Christian. Book 3, no comment. ^_^ Let’s face it, though. Clara had to choose and one way or another, there will be disappointed fans. I won’t say that I went in to the book knowing who I wanted her to choose – I was torn. How Hand managed to sway me in two directions time and again is nothing short of masterful. Even as the story unfolded, I was torn. Even as I neared the end of the book, I was torn! This book was a roller coaster of emotions, as evidenced by my status updates, because I saw the appeal in both Tucker and Christian. For me, her choice made sense and in the end, it felt right, but it was bittersweet to say the least. One thing that really stands out about Hand’s writing is that the story is never rushed. I feel like everything was well planned out and the progression of the story was just right. A lot of time passes in Boundless, but despite it being a slower-paced novel, it never once got boring. This is true of the whole series.Aside from the triangle, I’d say this storyline was the weakest in the series. I may be biased when I say that, because it revolved a lot around Angela, of whom I’m not a huge fan. She is the most selfish and jerkiest friend ever. Why Clara even likes her is beyond me. To say that Clara went above and beyond for her ungrateful ass is an understatement.Despite the sour taste Angela leaves in my mouth, I was riveted. Boundless has darker elements than the previous installments and I think Hand’s creativity really shined. I won’t say too much, but there is a depiction of hell that was incredibly imaginative and unique. In classic Hand style, the darker elements were peppered with a handful of very poignant moments. Namely, one scene high up on a rock that left me bawling like a baby - you just have to read it for yourself. Often, I also found myself laughing out loud at Clara’s one-liners and the situations she’d get herself into (mostly one recurring situation).Despite me having loved this book, I thought certain parts of the ending/resolution were too HEA. A bit too easy and a bit too contrived. The whole Tucker healing, specifically. I also would have liked more info on the guy she didn’t choose. I felt like he was kind of forgotten. =/ These things weren’t enough to bring my opinion of the book down by too much, but I took off a star post-review.In conclusion, this was a fantastic series that I know I’ll read and reread in the future. I think the ending, while disappointing some, will satisfy most. I‘m satisfied and I finished Boundless with a wistful smile. Not much more you can ask for from a series finale. For more of my reviews, visit my blog:
