Whoa.

Living Dead Girl - Elizabeth Scott

*No spoilers.

Whoa.
I think this is the most disturbing book I've ever read. I think so. I mean, I've read disturbing books before, but this is different for me, because it's contemporary and realistic fiction. It's raw and real and makes you see what is easier to ignore.

Ruin and Rising - Leigh Bardugo

*No spoilers.

Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo
I have very little to say, which is sad. This book wasn't bad, but it didn't engage my emotions in the least, which is also sad. Also, nothing turned out like I'd hoped, which is even more sad. I'd say I tapped out emotionally about 30% of the way in. From then on, it was just a story. A story that was interesting enough to keep me reading, but definitely wasn't the story I'd come to love.

Not bad. I'm not much of a comic book fan, but I got the first issue at BEA this year. How could I resist? I'm definitely curious as to how far the show has departed from the comics.

I found Rick to be a little bland, but let's see how it goes. He does a lot of crying. AMC show Rick is definitely tougher - so far. He's definitely "Good Guy Rick" in the comics.

The art is lovely. No complaints there.

Stomp on my heart, why don't you.

Night Road - Kristin Hannah

Welp. I don't know that I was destroyed, as Brandi promised, but this was definitely an emotional read. One I had trouble putting down.

I've alway had a thing for sadness. A martyr complex, if you will. I enjoy wallowing. Give me sad songs, sad movies, sad books, and sad stories. I like them all. There's something in sadness that makes me feel alive.

So, now you know. That's my secret. That's the secret that my close friends laugh at me about. I'm secretly sappy under all of this armor. Why yes, I do like the movie The Notebook. Thank you for asking.

Oh, Brother.

Complicit - Stephanie Kuehn

*No spoilers.

This is going to be one of those annoyingly cryptic reviews, because I don't want to give away the "explosive conclusion." *snort

I see what you were trying to do there, book. Unfortunately, no dice. What you were trying to do has been done many times before and way better. The entire time I was reading this book, it tried to convince me that it was a mindfuck, but you can't fuck my mind, if my mind isn't fucked. Or something.

So, originally, I got denied by Edelweiss for an e-arc, but then I got a paper ARC at BEA. *evil cackle

SUCK IT, EDELWEISS.

At least until I request another e-arc from you. At which point, you can stop sucking it.

Anywho.

Burn For Me. Strong, funny, likable MC. Sexy, badass, cocky hero who has some fantastic one-liners. Witty banter. The beginnings of romance minus the cheese. Quirky, lovable family members. Strong world-building. Magic. Lots of action. Just a damn good time.

Did we expect anything less from these two fantastic authors?

I haven't had much interest in any new urban fantasies lately, but this book brought me right back to what I've always loved about the genre.

More in-depth review to come closer to release, which is frikkin far away in OCTOBER. Sucks to be you guys. *evil cackle again

Oh, but wait. I'll be doing a giveaway of my arc, because I'm generous and kind hearted and other words like that.
